POWERFUL PRAYER

Scripture: “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” (James 5:16)

 If A = B and B = C, then A = C.  Basic algebra, right?

Our Bible class has been studying the life of Elijah, an ordinary man just like us (James 5:18), who is one of the most powerful prayer warriors of the Bible. How did he come by this power? Like Abraham, he believed God, and his faith was counted to him as righteousness.

According to Romans 3:21-23, a righteous man is not righteous because of his own righteousness. We are righteous through faith in Jesus. If our faith is in Jesus and if we believe, we meet the qualifications of a righteous person. And if we are a righteous person, our prayers are powerful.

Okay, back to the equation:  If my faith alone makes me righteous (A = B) and the prayer of a righteous person is powerful (B = C), then ergo, my prayers are powerful (A = C)!

I don’t know about you, but this blows my mind.  Why am I not praying about every situation? I have a powerful weapon in my arsenal, too often the last to be considered when trouble arises.

Prayer: Father, I repent of my prayerlessness.  Please help me believe that, because You have declared me righteous, I can pray with great power.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
