Scripture:  And having chosen us, he called us to come to him: (Romans 8:30 NLT).

Last Sunday, our praise team led us in the powerful song, “I Am Who You Say I Am.” Words on the overhead stood out as if in flashing neon:  “I AM CHOSEN..”

Chosen! What a beautiful thought!  Painful moments of my childhood, when I was the very last to be selected for a game, still hurt. Many years later, I still feel the shame and isolation of a nerdy girl—the chubby one in a feedsack dress—waiting in silent humiliation to hear my name reluctantly called.
The words of the song replaced this hurtful image. “I am chosen!” Another vision gloriously filled my mind, of Jesus calling my name, “Joanne.”  Was it true? Did He actually call my name? Did He choose me?
The Scripture verifies these words. God knew before the beginning of time who would respond to Him. When He planned His team, my name was on the roster! Everything in my life has been preparation for this moment, when I would hear His voice calling my name.
Those standing beside me might have seen my knees buckle and my awed silence as the incredible realization swept over me. Jesus—King of Kings and Lord of Lords—has chosen me!

Prayer: Thank You so much, Lord Jesus, for choosing me to be on Your great team!  May I bring You pleasure and honor as I live out this great calling.  Amen.
